Dear Friends and Family,

Human Trafficking is defined by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act passed by Congress as

(a) sex trafficking in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act has not attained 18 years of age; or

(b) the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery.

The average age of a prostitute in the United States is 12 years old. It is estimated that over 300,000 youth in America are at risk for sexual exploitation each year; at least 100,000 that are being sexually exploited each year. There are only 39 beds (3 shelters) capable of housing victims of domestic minor sex trafficking in America.

These statistics are hard to swallow. Human Trafficking is becoming a growing problem in our world today and many are wondering what can be done. Well, let me tell you what can be done!

In order to raise awareness on this issue, we are putting on Walk A Mile In Her Shoes on May 22, with all our proceeds going to a Gracehaven, a local safehouse for girls who have been victims of sexual exploitation, in Columbus, OH, called Gracehaven.

Gracehaven is opening a shelter in July that will add an additional 10 beds to the 39 currently available and be the only DMST shelter in the midwest.

How can I be involved in the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, you might ask?!

We are encouraging everyone to WALK!!! We believe that Sex Trafficking is not just a woman’s issue! Come and walk with me, and together we can make a difference in Ohio.

Sponsor me!

Many of you cannot come out and walk with us, but you do have the funds to sponsor me in the walk. My goal is to get 10 [or other personal goal] sponsors by the time the walk rolls around. Will you consider sponsoring me by donating $10? The money goes directly to Gracehaven to support their efforts to open this safehouse. You can donate directly to Gracehaven on their website or by mailing your donation to PO Box 541 Dublin, OH 43017. Put ‘Walk A Mile’ in the memo lineAll donations are tax deductable. www.gracehavenhouse.org

I encourage you to check out Gracehaven’s website and see what a great organization they are! If you are interested in more information (training information, updates etc.), let me know and I will put you on my email list and you will get regular updates.

Please consider partnering with us in this effort to raise awareness on the issue of human trafficking!
Peace.
