Salary:                                    $12/hour. Eligible for overtime. No benefits available at this time.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Residential Counselor is responsible for the operations of the home and creating a family-like atmosphere that supports the development of the full child. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and have a high school diploma. Some college is preferred. CPR, first aid certification, child development trainings and participation in continuing education is required and is satisfied through in-house programs offered by Gracehaven or third-party providers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•            High School Diploma or equivalent required.

•            Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology or related field preferred.

•            Experience in crisis intervention and working knowledge of domestic human sex trafficking of minors (DSTM) preferred.

•            Three years working with diverse populations and sexually abused youth.

•            Comfortable working with traumatized youth, some of whom may exhibit volatile tendencies.

•            Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.

•            Flexibility and dependability is a must.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Able to respond to volatile youth in a positive and loving manner.
  • Transport clients as needed.
  • Provide academic assistance to residents as needed.
  • Make daily decisions regarding health, safety, and discipline of youth.
  • Perform necessary tasks to run a home for residents (cooking, cleaning, shopping, driving).
  • Complete required documentation of youth daily activities.
  • Ability to stay awake and alert during overnight shifts.
  • Makes client medications available at prescribed intervals.
  • Observes and records that all medication has been taken in the medication log.
  • Secures all client personal property in the designated secure location and completes property log.
  • Ensure all clients, visitors and staff sign in and out.
  • Actively supervise and interact with group of youth in daily activities according to
  • structured daily schedule.
  • Facilitate activities as needed.
  • Ensure health needs of residents are being met (includes setting medical
  • appointments, taking residents to appointments and meeting with medical personnel,
  • completing all paperwork and ensuring all follow-up care is provided)
  • Instruct youth on daily living skills including chores and personal hygiene.
  • Communicate and coordinate with all appropriate staff during shift changes.
  • Maintain and monitor house records.
  • Document house problems and incidents.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Ohio driver’s license and insured vehicle. Must submit to a background check. Must have some flexibility to be on call and work some some evenings, holidays, nights, weekend, and overnight shifts. Willing to be trained in non- violent crisis intervention.
