Pay: $15/hour. Eligible for overtime. No benefits available at this time.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Residential Counselor is responsible for the operations of the home and creating a family-like atmosphere that supports the development of the full child. Applicants must be at least 21 years old with a clean driving record. CPR, first aid certification, child development trainings and participation in continuing education is required and is satisfied through in-house programs offered by Gracehaven or third-party providers. The Lead Residential Counselor is responsible for working with the Program Director to manage the household and assisting youth with daily living activities, disciplining, coaching and mentoring, transporting youth, and maintaining a “household” including cooking and cleaning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or related field required.
- LSW Preferred.
- Experience in crisis intervention and working knowledge of domestic human sex trafficking of minors (DSTM) preferred.
- Three years working with diverse populations and sexually abused youth.
- Comfortable working with traumatized youth, some of whom may exhibit volatile tendencies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
- Flexibility and dependability is a must.
Essential Functions
- Able to respond to volatile youth in a positive and loving manner.
- Make daily decisions regarding health, safety, and discipline of youth.
- Communicate with program therapists.
- Develop and maintain parent and/or guardian relationships in their child’s life,
- Monitor academic performance and maintain regular contact with teachers.
- Perform necessary tasks to run a home for residents (cooking, cleaning, shopping, driving).
- Complete required documentation of youth daily activities.
- Understand all aspects of household budget and expense tracking.
- Ability to stay awake and alert during overnight shifts.
- Documenting overnight behavior and experiences at each overnight shift
- Ability to effectively discipline, coach and mentor youth, to encourage proper and appropriate behavior and to support established treatment plans created by therapist for the youth.
- Be comfortable using strengths based approach to empower youth.
- Maintain healthy boundaries with youth.
- Be a good, moral role model to the girls that is in line with the program expectations.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Ohio driver’s license and insured vehicle. Must submit to a background check. Must have some flexibility to be on call and work some some evenings, holidays, nights, weekend, and overnight shifts. Willing to be trained in non- violent crisis intervention.
